Obituary for Hector Mills

Hector Leocadio Mills was born on December 9, 1938 in Panama
City, Panama to Stanley and Hortencia Mills (both deceased). His
siblings were Darlington Benjamin Mills (deceased), Florencia
Mills Moore (deceased), Stanley Mills, Yvonne Mills Lovell, Alberto Mills and Janette Mills Belgrave.
Hector attended and completed his elementary studies at St. Vincent Parochial School then moved on to IPA (Instituto Panamericano) for high school. While at IPA, he met Eleanor McKenzie
who became his sweetheart for 61 years. Eleanor was called home
to glory on October 31, 2018. Following his high school studies, he
gained employment as an accountant at Smoot y Paredes and then at
Firestone in the Free Zone located in the City of Colon, Republic of
Panama. He then migrated to the United States and resided in
Brooklyn, NY. While there, he continued his career as an accountant with Sterling-Winthrop,
Inc.
In 1964, he travelled back to Panama to wed Eleanor May McKenzie at St. Paul’s Church; a
marriage which lasted a total of 54 years. Hector then relocated back to Brooklyn, NY, with
his wife Eleanor and the couple were blessed with a daughter, Bernadette Marie Mills.
Hector pursued and completed his Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a minor in
Marketing at Baruch College in New York City. After 28 years as an accountant, he decided to
change careers and became an Insurance Sales Leader for PFP (People for People). This new
career led him and Eleanor to Ocala, FL where he joined Toastmasters and eventually became a
well-known and highly sought after speaker for many organizations in the area. In order to
share his thirst for knowledge and desire to educate the youth in Ocala, he became an instructor
at Webster College/Rasmussen College. He taught a series of classes including Personal Development, Math and Spanish. He did this for 16 years and was awarded the title of Instructor
of the Year for several consecutive years. He touched many lives, molded and educated all
who crossed his path: including students, co-workers, family and friends. His mantra was Positive Thinking, so he lived his life according to a quote from Napoleon Hill “What mind can
conceive, man can achieve.” He was an amazing husband, father, counselor, teacher, and an
angel sent to us by God to help us live our lives to the fullest.
